Bio-fresh absorption test results

FACTS OF THE CASE
Test of the absorption capacity of Ethanol and Ethylene of the Bio Fresh Masterbatch additive at room temperature.
TEST MATERIAL
5 kgs Masterbatch, white cylinders, diameter approx. 3 mm length approx. 3 mm, shrink-wrapped in Polyethylene bag.
TEST METHOD
Determination of the absorption capacity.
5 - 10 g Masterbatch had been dried during 3 hours at 1050 C in the dry-cupboard and afterwards transferred into a top-opened receptacle in an Exsikkator (volume approx. .4,8 1).

Determination of the Ethylene absorption.

The Exsikkator was rinsed with Ethylene and stored during altogether 30 days. The Determination of Ethylene absorption had been done gravimetricallyl and also via GC. The gaschromatographical determination was done via Headspace-technology (heating up to 900 C, 30 min.) on a gaschromatopgraph, instrument no.: 319, separation column: B. There were done 4 determinations at atime.

Determination of the Ethanol absorption

An open receptacle with absolute Ethanol was put into the Exsikkator and stored for 25 days totally. The determination of Ethanol absorption had been done gravimetrically and also via GC. The gaschromatographical determination was done via Headspace-technology (heating up to 900 C, 30 min.) on a gaschromatopgraph, instrument no.: 319, separation column: GS-B. There were done 4 determinations at a time.

Conclusion

The tested Bio fresh Masterbatch shows an Ethanol absorption of 2,14 +/- 0,22 Gew % after a 25-day lasting storage period at room temperature in saturated Ethanol atmosphere. The Ethylene absorption amounts to 0.54 +/- 0,14 Gew % after a 30-day lasting storage period at room temperature in Ethylene atmosphere. The measured values gained during the gravimetrically test especially of Ethanol are somewhat higher than the gaschromatographical values. The reason for this result is, that also the water absorption is measured while the gravimetrical method.
